Angel Garcia, AKA SpiderMonkey, continues to break into new territory with his solo project SpiderMonkey Beats. Since debuting with "Chakal" and "Vas A Detonar" in 2021, he's taken the sound on the road, playing shows across the West Coast. As the former frontman/songwriter to Los Angeles based electronica duo Mezklah, Angel Garcia springs forth a distinct sound with SpiderMonkey Beats — hyper rhythmic, punchy and driving, carrying spitfire lyrics of upliftment through times of transition. Mezklah was recently honored as part of "Great Day In East L.A." (2025-2026), the first exhibit of its kind comprehensively chronicling the Chicano musicians who built L.A.'s musical heritage — from Lalo Guerrero and the Post WWII Pachuco Boogie scene through to Mezklah as pioneers of Latin Electronica in L.A. and the U.S. in the early 21st Century. This fall, SpiderMonkey Beats heads north to play the Port Townsend Film Festival, part of a larger celebration honoring the band Los Lobos and their new documentary, Los Lobos: Native Sons. Angel recently completed a remix of the Los Lobos classic "Kiko," a full- circle nod to the legends who helped pave the way. With a stack of new songs in the chamber, he's gearing up to release a new EP in late 2026 — marking the first time either SpiderMonkey Beats or Mezklah have pressed their music to vinyl.
